The Outdoor Recreation in Parks and Tourism (ORPT) program is looking for a Teaching Assistant (TA) for Fall 2024. The TA will assist with the ORPT PRT Professions course as well as other program teaching and management needs. The TA may assist with course-related field trips as a driver and/or co-leader, course-related planning and logistics, grading, and maintaining program equipment. The job will take place outdoors and on campus. Specific duties and responsibilities will be determined in consultation with the successful applicant.

This position is being offered in partnership with SUU Career & Professional Development. As such, the TA will participate in weekly 1-hour workshops to help them develop their professional skills and career readiness competencies. The TA will work with a mentor to set goals and evaluate performance throughout the semester.

Qualifications:

  • ORPT major or minor preferred.
  • Basic outdoor skills and knowledge (e.g. ability to spend multiple hours outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, ability to comfortably navigate a variety of terrain).
  • An enthusiasm for teaching and learning in the outdoors.
  • Current valid driver’s license required.
  • SUU van driver certified or ability to take and pass the required driver training.
  • Available Tuesday during the semester 12:00-6:00pm to assist with ORPT 2800 course.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good professional communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
